Roadway switch a case of spy vs. spy

It’s tough to know who the suspicious driver was in this situation, as reported to the Kalispell Police Department. A woman called to report a mysterious car following behind. She turned around and started following that car. Then that car started following her again. An officer eventually found the vehicles and counseled both drivers.

Someone tried to pawn a gun on East Idaho Street, but a police check revealed that it was stolen.

A man, described as having his flannel shirt tucked into his belt, was reportedly yelling obscenities on First Avenue East.

Reports of gunshots near Hilltop Avenue were unfounded. Nobody on the scene seemed to hear anything.

Responding to reports of a man slumped over his wheel on Seventh Avenue West, officers found someone who was taking a nap.

Someone was worried that her mother might give out personal information to a possible scam caller.

A woman told police that she let a friend borrow her car days ago. Now she doesn’t know where that friend has gone. The friend later called police and said the car was involved in a crime, but she wasn’t driving.

A driver got out of a car and fell down near 13th Street East, according to one report. Two children inside the vehicle looked on.

A Grandview Drive resident reported a stolen barbecue. It was found minutes later in the carport.

Two kittens and a dog were found near Fourth Avenue East.

Someone tried to cash stolen checks at a bank. He left his ID there for easy identification.

A concerned citizen reported that about nine young people were on Third Avenue West playing “hackey sack.” One of them was smoking a cigarette. An officer found that the smoker was 18, and nothing illegal was happening.


One caller told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that a man was smoking marijuana in a car. Then the culprit apparently felt bold and “revved his engine” in the middle of U.S. 2 near Kalispell.

The victim of a purse snatching called back because one of her checks was found in Ronan.

One caller reported a loose dog near Spotted Bear Road. He then stated that he “doesn’t trust anyone” and wouldn’t give his name.

A man has reportedly been returning to a Bigfork business where he was fired and banned. He shows up intoxicated and harasses employees.

No one has claimed a lost handgun that was found in the woods near Forest Road.

When a motorhome pulled up in front of a Pioneer Road home and the driver asked for gas, the resident called the Sheriff’s Office.

Animal control picked up a wayward basset hound on Emmons Canyon Road.

A reasonably good car was found near the “rock quarry” down by a river, according to one report. It had multiple bullet holes and no plates. It was deemed abandoned.

Following a reported fight near Jellison Road, a woman was seen driving a Buick at 50 mph in reverse.

Someone reported that a man with “many cats” on River Road was not able to take care of them all. The caller was advised that animal control was already on the case.

An estimated $20 worth of stuff was reported stolen from a vehicle near Mission Way.


The Whitefish Police Department caught up with a man who was intoxicated and “in and out of consciousness” behind a Central Avenue business.

Someone was illegally dumping trash in a Wisconsin Avenue business’s dumpster, according to one report.


A Columbia Falls Police Department officer was unable to find the source of “strange” screams that one caller heard near Bills Lane. It was reported as “more like the scream of an animal caught in a trap.”

A high school student claimed that his friend used his phone to make a prank call. That call went to 911 dispatch.


The Smith Valley Fire Department took the lead on a vehicle fire on Smith Lake Road. It was quickly put out, but the vehicle was reported as “fully engulfed.”
