Mental Health Center hosts 5k fun run on Saturday

| May 25, 2015 10:12 PM

Western Montana Mental Health Center of Flathead County is hosting its first 5K fun run, “Stomp the Stigma,” on Saturday.

May is mental health month and, according to organizers, “sets the platform to provide awareness, education, and valuable information about mental health issues that affect our community.”

The center is a nonprofit that provides comprehensive mental health services throughout Flathead County. It employs over 65 people in the Flathead Valley and provided services to more than 1,100 individuals and families in the county in the past year.

Proceeds from the run will go directly to offsetting the center’s charity care and allowing it to continue providing services to the community.

The mental health-center appealed to those who have used its services, or who know somebody who has, to assist by becoming a runner, sponsor or volunteer.

The fun run begins and ends at the Western Montana Mental Health Center campus, 410 Windward Way. The organizers ask participants to carpool if they can.

Pre-registration costs $25. Registration on the day of the run costs $30. Check-in and registration will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The run begins at 10 a.m. A T-shirt and goodie bag will be provided to all runners. Organizers promise that the “run will go on, rain, snow, or shine!”

In addition to the fun run, there will also be a silent auction and art show.
