America has let this veteran down

| May 27, 2015 9:00 PM

Sitting at home or Memorial Day, 2015, I started to think back sadly to the nine years that I served in the armed forces and 18 months of combat in Korea.

I can easily remember thinking how I was risking my life to save our country from socialism and communism. Little did I realize the socialists and environmentalists would take over this great country so few years after the Korean War. Each time a new piece of shrapnel worked out of my body, I thought, “This is not a high price to pay for the freedom I have enjoyed.”

Incidentally, my older brother (an infantry rifleman) was captured and spent almost three years in a North Korean prisoner of war camp. Then they sent him to Vietnam for two tours and sprayed him with Agent Orange, which killed him from cancer. He also was a strong believer in freedom.

Now today I look at what is happening to our country and hang my head in shame. We have 80 percent of black births out-of-wedlock which will ruin all family values that made us such a strong nation. The blacks in the inner city use any excuse for riots so they can steal and destroy property. And 80 percent of the people incarcerated are black or Mexican.

The welfare system has 17 different programs for blacks and other minorities. By the way, before you classify me as a bigot, I would remind you that I would actively campaign for Tom Sowell for president. My favorite actor is Morgan Freemen. My favorite football player is Adrian Peterson, my favorite country singer is Charlie Pride and one of my best friends in Korea was black.

Where does the blame fall for the destruction of America? I maintain it is the fault of liberal politicians, who will do anything to get the vote, and Obama’s policies, which are treasonable. Our nation is $18 trillion in debt, mostly to China.

The problems in American cannot be blamed on black people because it was white politicians who passed all the welfare laws (I keep thinking back to a program on TV where this big woman was in front of the camera, all decked cut in gold chains, a gold necklace, gold earrings, and saying, “Dey is not goin’ take away my entitlements.”

I have been a Republican most of my life but am fed up with Mitch McConnell and all of the other RINOS who go along with every Obama proposal.

What can we do about it at this late date? A much stronger “Tea Party,” electing a Ted Cruz or Dr. Rand Paul for president and getting rid of the John McCains and his ilk in Congress would make a good start. Last of all, get rid of Hillary! —Richard J. Reed, Kila
