Herbert H. 'Herbie' Russell, 96

Herbert H. “Herbie” Russell, 96, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, in Kalispell due to complications from a fall at home.

Herbert was born on May 6, 1919, in Saugus, Massachusetts, to Charles and Jennie (Burnett) Russell.

Herbie attened school in Saugus and was raised in New England. Herbie entered the U.S. Army and served his country from 1940 to 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant and earned two bronze stars. He served in Panama and Europe. Herbie always said, “Once a Soldier: Always a Soldier!”

In 1944 Herbie married Florence Walendowicz, they were married for 67 years before her passing. Herbie was a tool and dye inspector and a lobster fisherman. Herbie was active in the community with Good Sammers, VFW, and St. Matthews prayer groups. His focus on life was God, family and country. 

Herbie’s hobbies were all outdoor activities, drawing, shooting, chopping wood and helping his family and friends. He loves his granddaughter Kacey and grandson Aaron.

Herbie was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; and a brother, Charles. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Rob) Holden of Missoula, Camille (Ron) Scott of Kalispell; grandchildren, Kacey Scott and Aaron Gibson; and a cousin, Hilton Burnett.

The family suggests memorials be made to Kalispell Regional Healthcare Palliative Care.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, with a mass of Christian burial at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at St. Matthews Catholic Church. To send a note of condolence to the family please go to www.buffalohillfh.com.
