Class B football: Bigfork's season ends with loss at Missoula Loyola
MISSOULA — Aidan Collins rushed 175 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to carry Missoula Loyola (8-1) to a 26-16 quarterfinal victory over Bigfork on Saturday in Class B football postseason action at Rollin Field.
Collins’ TD runs were 7, 1 and 15 yards.
Bigfork (7-4) slipped to within three, down 19-16 in the third quarter, on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jonathan Landon. Loyola, however, answered five minutes later on a 2-yard touchdown run by Jacob Byrne.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Loyola held a 12-9 lead at the half.
Adam Jordt returned an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter for the Vikings.
Bigfork’s Hugo Schyberg opened the scoring with a 24-yard field goal with 4:49 left in the opening quarter.
Bigfork outgained Loyola 417-376. Bigfork passed for 168 yards and rushed for 249. Loyola’s totals were 121 and 255, respectively.
“We were in it the whole game,” Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said.
“They’re a tough team, they’re a good football team.”
Landon was 12 of 28 passing for 168 yards. He was intercepted once.
Matthew Farrier had another monster game for the Vikings with 198 yards rushing on 19 carries. For the season, the season finished with 1,206 yards.
Farrier also totaled five receptions for 86 yards.
Jordt had seven catches for 82 yards.
“Both teams up and down the field,” Emslie said.
“We didn’t stop each other.
“It was a frustrating day,” he added.
“I can’t complain. This football team did not quit and played hard to the very end.”
Loyola advances to semifinal play on Saturday at Huntley Project, which advanced with a 35-0 romp over Malta.
