Glacier speakers take commanding win in Missoula
Winning seven events and sending 61 students to the finals, Glacier High School overwhelmingly won the Ralph Y. McGinnis Invitational speech meet on Saturday in Missoula.
Glacier scored 320.5 points at the tournament at the University of Montana. Flathead High School was second with 105.5. The meet featured 13 teams from Montana and Idaho, including eight Montana Class AA schools.
“It was one of those days where nearly everything went right for the Wolfpack,” Glacier head coach Greg Adkins said in a news release. “We showed a lot of depth today and a lot of balance. I am so excited for our team, especially since so many of our newer members had their best day ever.”
Adkins said having 61 youths earn finalist honors set a new school record. It also was the largest margin of victory for a Glacier team.
The victory came a week after Flathead defeated Glacier in a tiebreaker at the Kalispell Kickoff Tournament.
The next competition for the Kalispell schools is the Western Regional Invitational Nov. 20-21 at Flathead and Glacier.
Judges from the community are needed for this meet. Organizers need 800 to 900 speech and debate judging hours to successfully host the tournament. Judges can register online at www.kalispellspeechdebate.org
