Volleyball roundup: Glacier falls, Flathead rolls in Missoula

Missoula Sentinel had too much offensive power for Glacier as the visiting Spartans beat the Wolfpack 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 in Western AA volleyball play Thursday at Glacier High School.

Sentinel totaled 43 kills to Glacier’s 27.

Abigail Fiske and Ali Williams had seven kills each for Glacier (1-5).

Elsa Godwin totaled 16 for Sentinel.

“Sentinel is very aggressive, an offensively minded team,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

“They passed the ball very well.”

Harkins said Hailee Bennett “did an excellent job on defense, passing and digging.”

Flathead 3, Big Sky 1

MISSOULA — Marisa Postovit had 12 of Flathead’s 43 kills and Alyssa Wisher totaled five of the team’s 10 blocks as the Bravettes defeated Missoula Big Sky, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 in Western AA play.

Flathead collected nine aces, led by Lizzy Sherwood’s four.

Kills – Flathead 43 (Marisa Postovit 12), Big Sky 27 (Anna Gragg 15). Blocks – Flathead 10 (Alyssa Wisher 5), Big Sky 12 (Gragg 8). Digs – Flathead 47 (Jourdon Schultz 17), Big Sky 58 (Macey Newbary 18). Assists – Flathead 32 (Xio Lopp 26), Big Sky 26 (Kelsey McEnaney 24). Aces – Flathead 9 (Lizzie Shwerwood 4), Big Sky 2 (Jada Ogilvie 1, McEnaney 1).

Bigfork 3,

Stillwater Christian 1

BIGFORK — After dropping the first set, Bigfork rallied to win the next three and knock off Stillwater Christian School, 21-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-20 in nonconference play.

 “It was a great team effort,” Valkyries coach Schulyer Baird said. “We had some girls pulled up from the junior varsity today and those girls really kept everything together.”

 Miranda Campbell led the way for Bigfork with a match-high 16 kills and five blocks. Jaime Berg also turned in a strong effort, leading the Valkyries in digs (14) and aces (5).

 “(Campbell)’s game has really come together,” Baird said. “She’s being a leader as an offensive player and that’s just great for us.”

 Bigfork plays Saturday at 2 p.m. at Troy.
