Volleyball roundup: Columbia Falls, Libby notch wins; Glacier falls in Missoula

COLUMBIA FALLS — Kiara Burlage had eight kills to go with four aces as Columbia Falls breezed past Frenchtown 25-6, 25-17, 25-9 in Northwestern A volleyball action Saturday.

It marked the second time this season Columbia Falls (10-0 overall, 4-0 league) swept the Broncs.

“That was the best volleyball I have seen my team play all year,” Columbia Falls coach Jessy Matthews said.

“They worked really hard.”

She said the passing was crisp and the team excelled at the service line with 18 aces.

Kaitlyn Casazza also had four aces.

Cydney Finberg had two blocks and led in assists with 25.

Sentinel 3, Glacier 1

MISSOULA — Missoula Sentinel defeated Glacier 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18 in Western AA play.

Nikki Krueger had 16 of Glacier’s 49 kills while Abbi Fiske had three blocks.

Kills – Glacier 49 (Nikki Krueger 16), Sentinel 48 (Jordyn Schweyen 11, Elsa Godwin 11). Blocks – Glacier 4 (Abbi Fiske 3), Sentinel 10 (Kylie Frohlich 4). Digs – Glacier 58 (Hailey Bennett 21), Sentinel 54 (Sarina Moreno 17). Assists – Glacier 41 (Abby Scharve 19), Sentinel 48 (J. Schweyen 23). Aces – Glacier 5 (Hailey Ruggles 3), Sentinel 10 (Liz Williams 3, Taylor Herman 3).

Libby 3, Bigfork 2

LIBBY — Libby regrouped in the fifth set to pull out a wild 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 17-15 District 7B volleyball victory over Bigfork.

Both teams also went five sets in an earlier meeting.

“It was down to the wire,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnson said.

“There was a celebration at the end. It made for an exciting finish to homecoming week.”

Mehke Fykes had 15 kills and five blocks for Libby (6-6, 4-2).

Lana Berg totaled 11 kills for Bigfork and six aces.

“A great team effort,” Ostrem-Johnston said.

“Give credit to Bigfork. It was a battle.”
