Volleyball roundup: Flathead earns top seed after day one at Missoula Invitational

MISSOULA — Flathead stormed out to a 13-1 finish on the first day of the Missoula Invitational volleyball tournament at Missoula Hellgate to take the top seed out of pool play on Thursday.

The Bravettes were nearly flawless in their pool and matched the first-day record of Missoula Sentinel, which led the other pool with a 13-1 record at its home gym. Glacier, playing in the same pool as Sentinel, went 10-4 to claim the third seed in that bracket.

“I was very pleased with the day,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

“We passed the ball very well, we blocked better today than we have.”

The top eight teams play in the championship bracket at Sentinel today, while the next eight play in consolation action at Hellgate.

Glacier will open with Helena Capital at 10 a.m. at Sentinel.

Among the lower eight were Columbia Falls, which finished 5-9, Polson at 4-10 and Whitefish at 0-14.

The championship match is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Sentinel.

Flathead 13-1, Helena Capital 10-4, Missoula Hellgate 8-6, Great Falls 7-7, Missoula Big Sky 7-7, Columbia Falls 5-9, Polson 4-10, Frenchtown 2-12.

*Top eight teams will play at Sentinel Friday. Next eight will play at Hellgate.

Championship match is Friday at 3 p.m. at Sentinel

Eureka 3, Troy 0

EUREKA —Eureka cruised to a District 7B win over Troy, winning 25-13, 25-17, 25-20.

Kassi Peterson led the Lions with a match-high 11 kills and 15 digs and Amanda Peterson had 10 kills and two blocks.

Aurora Bequart led Troy with eight kills, three blocks and three aces.

“We played strong today,” Eureka coach Charli Chapman said.

“We hit from all over at the net and that worked in our favor. We served very well and our passing game was the best it’s been all season.”
