Flathead 2nd, Glacier 3rd at Missoula Invitational volleyball tournament

MISSOULA — Missoula Sentinel defeated Flathead 25-14, 25-16 in the championship match at the Missoula Invitational volleyball tournament on Friday.

Glacier finished the two-day event by placing third. The Wolfpack dropped Missoula Hellgate 25-20, 25-21 in the consolation final.

“It was an excellent day for us,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

“We put two good days together. We worked on our competitive level and raised it up a notch.”

Against Hellgate, Nikki Krueger had six of the Glacier’s 21 kills.

Abby Schrade totaled 10 assists and Brietta Russell collected seven digs.

Glacier went 10-4 the first day in poll play to earn the No. 3 seed.

Flathead went 13-1 to win its pool.

Glacier started the final day by downing Helena Capital 25-23, 25-16, the lost to Missoula Sentinel 25-14, 25-9, but rebounded to defeat Helena High 25-19, 23-25, 15-11.

“The girls had a great competitive attitude, worked very hard every single match,” Harkins said.

“They still believe that there is some success that they can earn this season.”

Match scores from Flathead’s other Friday outings were not available.

Flathead plays at Helena High on Friday at 4:30 p.m. while Glacier is at Helena Capital the same day at 7 p.m.
