Gray, Whitefish girls 2nd at cross country divisional

POLSON — Corvallis swept the team honors while Hamilton’s Cameron Meikle and Jaycie Schmalz were the individual winners at the Western A divisional cross country meet on Saturday.

The Corvallis boys dominated with four runners in the top 10 and finished with a 32 team total. Frenchtown, 76, was second.

Meikle had the best time, clocked in 15 minutes, 18.85 seconds.

Ronald Venema of Corvallis was the other runner to finish under 16 minutes. His time was 15:32.36.

Sage Wanner of Columbia Falls was fifth, 16:14.08.

The Corvallis girls had three runners in the top 10 en route to a tight one-point victory over Whitefish. Corvallis finished with a 56 point total.

Whitefish also had three runners in the top 10, led by Barrett Gray, second in 18:57.84. That marked the first time Gray bettered the 19-minute mark this season.

Whitefish’s Sarah Perez was sixth, 19:53.38; and Braya Hobson was ninth, 20:07.03.

Polson, which finished third with 65 points, had three top 10 performers — Ryan Harrop was third, 19:35.58; Malia Seeley was fourth, 19:39.49; and Molly Sitter seventh, 19:58.56.

Schmalz had a winning time of 18:15.47.

The cross country season ends with the state meet on Saturday in Great Falls.
