Golf: Avery opens with 76 at Butte
BUTTE — Teigan Avery is off to a strong start at the Butte Invitational golf tournament.
The Glacier High School senior carded a 76 on Thursday at Fairmont Golf Course to take a commanding lead after 18 holes.
She is the defending Class AA state champion.
Hayden Flohr of Billings West had the next-best round with an 83. Only five girls broke 90.
Glacier’s McKenna Hulslander carded a 92 to tie for eighth place.
Glacier is a close second to Bozeman in the team standings. Bozeman with a 369 score leads the Wolfpack by two shots.
Flathead, 452, is 11th.
In boys play, Flathead and Glacier did not play an individual crack the top 10.
On the team front, Glacier is seventh with a 328 score. Flathead is 13th with a 372.
Billings West tops the standings with a 308 total.
Joey Moore of West leads with a 72. He has a three-shot advantage on Payton Stott of Billings Skyview.
The tournament ends today.
