Volleyball roundup: Eureka, Whitefish earn wins

EUREKA — Eureka stormed back after dropping the first set to best St. Ignatius 23-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-20 on Thursday in the nonconference Class B volleyball opener for the Lions.

Amanda Peterson led Eureka in kills (16) and digs (16).

Erynn Thier had seven aces for the Lions.

“Small, but mighty,” Eureka coach Charli Chapman said of her team.

“We have some things to clean up, but it was a good learning game opener. We learned a lot.”

Eureka starts four freshman, one junior and one senior.

The Lions play at Ronan on Saturday.

STEVENSVILLE —Whitefish upended Stevensville 25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 in a nonconference Class A match.

Our girls played very well and aggressive,” Whitefish coach Jackie Fuller said.

“I feel as a team we continue to get better with each competition. All we ask is that as a team, and a program, the girls strive to get better each day.”

Whitefish will play Hamilton and Corvallis on Saturday in Columbia Falls.
