Man not sure why he's walking target

A man on East Lakeshore Drive near Whitefish reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that he heard two pops and was hit in the shoulder by a pellet or BB. The man’s skin was broken, but his shirt was not torn. The man told deputies he did not know who was shooting or why someone was shooting at him.

Deputies took a report of an elderly woman in a small silver station wagon who did not pay for gasoline at a station on Montana 35. Deputies were unable to contact the driver. Gas station management said they did not think the theft was intentional.

Deputies counseled neighbors on Parker Avenue who have dealt with several incidents where chickens escaped their enclosure and a dog chases the chickens.

A woman on Grandview Terrace in Lakeside was in tears as she reported that a bear had chased her when she went outside her home. The woman threatened to shoot the bear. Deputies made contact the next morning and the scene was clear of the bear.

A woman was found OK by deputies at a home on Echo Lake Road after a man requested a welfare check on her. The California man said he had married the woman the week before while in Mexico “as kind of a joke,” but that the woman had left in a hurry. The man was concerned that the woman’s mother might be holding her against her will.

A disturbance was reported on Cobbler Village road, where a man allegedly grabbed a female by the throat and held a knife to her throat. The woman refused medical treatment and told deputies that the man had a drug abuse problem. The woman did intend to press charges.


Fraud was reported to the Kalispell Police Department. A woman said she was trying to buy a dog from a website that sells tiny teacup puppies. She sent money via an online website. The website refused to give the woman an address and claimed that a carrier had the dog, and that the website operator could not retrieve the dog. The website refused to return the woman’s money.

Children were reported as running on the roof of a school. Officers did not find anyone on the roof, but advised a group of kids in the area as to what could happen to children if they were found on the roof.

A woman reported criminal mischief on Liberty Street. She said that over the course of the last week someone had siphoned her gas tank, flattened two of her tires and keyed her vehicle.

A nurse reported that someone was making threats via Facebook to burn a local nursing home to the ground.


A woman reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office that her cats had eaten parts of two bats found dead at her U.S. 2 residence.

One person was arrested after a man reported that someone broke into his home while he was out hunting. Deputies were able to recover some of the stolen property from the suspect.

A woman on Spencer Road reported that she had found bones and hair wrapped in plastic. Deputies determined that the remains were of an animal origin.

Deputies told a woman to leave a bear alone after she shot at the animal. The woman told dispatch she had called Troy dispatch for five days in a row to report bear problems. She claimed the bear had chased her son and charged her dogs. Fish and wildlife officers were dispatched.


Whitefish Police Department fielded a call from a driver  who said his vehicle had been hit by a Lexus. Other than a bike rack that fell from the Lexus, damage to both vehicles was minimal and police did not make a report.


Columbia Falls Police Department received a report of a man and woman in an SUV with California license plates trying to break into a thrift store on Ninth Street in Columbia Falls. Officers contacted the store’s manager and a walk through determined the property was secure.
