Kent A. Smith, 58

| September 12, 2015 9:30 PM

Kent Alden Smith left this life at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2015, with his wife Diane by his side at their home in Bigfork. Kent fought a courageous battle against cancer for the past three years and leaves behind a stepson, Taylor Glantz, and two grandchildren.

Kent was born the fourth of 11 children on Oct. 9,1956, in Las Vegas to Cecil and Marie Smith who preceded him in death, 1984 and 2010 respectively.

Kent was a colorful human being, a voracious reader who read the entire World Book Encyclopedia set before the age of 13.

Kent was a man of great experience and adventure. He was a United States Navy veteran, 1981 to 1987, who served on board the submarine USS Bremerton as a radioman.

After his discharge from the Navy, Kent earned a degree from Flathead Valley Community College and began what would become a long and interesting career as a surveyor. While working in the oil industry for over 25 years, Kent visited many locations throughout the United States, Eastern Europe, North Africa and extensively throughout the Middle East.

Kent was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We all loved him dearly.

Burial took place Sept. 8 in Carey, Idaho.
