Police respond to 'meltdown'

A caller told the Kalispell Police Department that a man walked by a 10-year-old girl and yelled at her and shoved her to the ground on West Idaho Street. Officers found a very confused father, who told them his daughter had a “meltdown” which explained the crying. Every other detail was unfounded.

A car accident involving a city vehicle on the corner of East Center Street and North Main Street left one car on its side. Initial reports stated a law enforcement officer’s vehicle was involved in the wreck.

A caller reported several transients at an abandoned house on Appleway Drive. They were allegedly throwing things out of the house and lighting them on fire. Officers saw no signs of the people or the fire when they arrived.

An employee on West Idaho Street called police after she left to chase down a customer who had left $100 at the business, only to return and find someone had stolen $30 from the till. She was going to pull the video for law enforcement.

A caller reported witnessing two homeless men take a motorcycle off the lawn at a Pheasant Run residence and begin pushing it down the street. Police recovered the bike and returned it to the resident who only realized it was missing just before police arrived. There was no sign of the two would-be thieves.


Several concerned callers told the Whitefish Police Department that a female transient at their event had been there all night and was making them uncomfortable. The woman was sitting by a tree with her belongings “not doing anything wrong,” according to the report. She was asked to move along.

Two men wrecked a golf cart at the links on U.S. 93 West. They began screaming at employees who wanted them to pay for damages. The employees at the course were worried the altercation could turn physical. The two parties came to an agreement before officers arrived.

Two teenagers were reportedly riding a moped on the Whitefish High School track.

A roofing trailer on Dakota Avenue had reportedly rolled into the street and was blocking the northbound lane. The company which owned the trailer could not be reached so it was towed, leading to nasty surprise come Monday morning.


The West Valley Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle fire on West Bowman Drive at 5:31 p.m. on Saturday.
