| September 16, 2015 6:48 PM

Phyllis Jane (Kauffman) Swallow, 74, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2015, following an extended illness.

She was born on March 1, 1941, in Kalispell to parents Rollan and Jane (Rowell) Kauffman. She attended Kalispell public schools.

At age 18, she flew to Fairbanks, Alaska, to marry her high school sweetheart, Wesley Allen Swallow, who was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base. They were married July 20, 1959, and enjoyed 56 years together.

After a year, they returned to make their home in Kalispell where they raised their three children. Her faith in God was very important to her and she attended church regularly and read her Bible faithfully. She was an avid letter-writer and an encourager to many missionaries throughout the world.

Phyllis was a much-loved aide at Helena Flats Elementary School for 31 years. She loved sacred music, flower gardening, bird-watching, crocheting, reading, camping, swimming and enjoyed her pet kitties. Possessing a sweet and gentle spirit, Phyllis attracted many friends. Her fun-loving nature also resulted in her playing many practical jokes on friends and loved ones.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Wesley Allen Swallow; her children, Kerry and Richard Johnson of Minnesota, Kevin and Sheila Swallow of New York, and Keith and Amy Swallow of Missouri; five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters; brother, Dennis, and Irene Kauffman, of Grants Pass, Oregon; and sister, Cheryl, and Buddy Hammond, of Kalispell.

She was preceded in death by three nephews, a great-niece, and her parents Rollan and Jane Kauffman.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Whitefish Assembly of God Church.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
