Glacier fees increase on Nov. 1

| September 17, 2015 9:00 PM

Glacier National Park entrance fees will increase on Nov. 1.

The basic entry fee for a vehicle will rise $5 (to $20 from Nov. 1 to April 30 or $30 from May 1 to Oct. 31).

An annual park pass will cost $45 in January 2016, a $10 increase. The annual pass price will rise to $50 in January 2017.

Motorcycle entrance fees will increase from $10 per person in the winter to $15 per motorcycle. In the summer, the motorcycle gate fee will rise from $12 per person to $25 per motorcycle.

Individual entrance fees of $10 per person will not change during the winter. For the summer season, the individual entry fee will go from $12 to $15 starting in May 2016.

The last time Glacier entrance fees were raised was in 2006.

Some campground fees also are increasing.

At Many Glacier Campground, the camping fee will rise from $20 to $23 effective in May 2016. At that time, half the campsites at Many Glacier also can be reserved through the federal reservation system.

Group camping fees also are increasing in Glacier.

For backcountry campers, the fee for walk-in permits will rise from $5 to $7 per person.

Advance-reservation backcountry camping permits will cost $40 (a $10 increase).

The fee changes could potentially generate an additional $500,000 annually for Glacier National Park.

Glacier gets to keep 80 percent of the money collected at entrance stations and campgrounds. The remaining 20 percent goes to the National Park Service.
