OPINION: Talking to those who are burdened by guilt over their role in abortion

When I walk around our town and in and out of stores I am quite often wearing a shirt with a message: “ABORTION IS MURDER.” Some folks walking by have a tendency to turn away after noticing the message and it makes me wonder, “What’s on your mind?”

What I realize is that lots of these folks may have been personally involved in an abortion. In the past 42 years, 60-plus million children have been aborted “lawfully” based on Roe v. Wade. The oldest of these aborted children then would be 42 years old today if allowed to live. The mothers of the oldest of these aborted children would probably be about 65, and likely are still alive today.

Then one can surmise that as we progress through the decades from 1973 to the present time this same sort of logic applies to the potential mothers; those who had abortions and who are younger are very much alive today. And let us also assume that at least some of the males involved have awareness and caring and guilt for their part.

When you total up the number of folks likely alive today that have been involved in abortion, it is a frightening percentage of souls who live with this burden. That number is 60 million females, give or take, since some may have had multiple abortions. Then pick a number of males, say 40 of the 60 million who may have cared and/or been involved in the decision process. That comes to 100 million grown mature folks alive today in our society who are related to an abortion. That is fully one third of the adult population of America, meaning potentially one of every three people you see on a daily basis has been in some way involved in an abortion.

The number no doubt is much larger if you take into account that certainly some of the parents of those going through an abortion were aware and may have played a role in the decision and so also live with some pain and guilt.

Let me say at this point that in no way am I trying to lay more guilt onto you or create more pain for you. Please take the time to read through to the end for the whole picture.

Now let’s imagine for a moment if those 100 million plus folks had not been involved in an abortion, how different their lives would be today. They would be raising families and having grandchildren to brag about instead of living with their pain and suffering. We cannot go back, but we can move forward and begin to right the wrongs of our judicial system.

You may be thinking, “What can one person do?” The answer is, together we can succeed. A simple letter to your senators and representatives stating your disgust toward the law that allows the killing of babies is how the process begins. For example: “It has been scientifically proven that life begins at conception. Kill Roe v. Wade and defund Planned Parenthood or lose my vote.”

That will get their attention. And by moving forward and doing the right thing, all who were involved in an abortion can begin to forgive themselves. It is God’s wish for you to help right the wrongs in America and He will reward you. God created male and female. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply.

I write all this so that we, as a society, may be more aware and recognize that there is a huge need for love, compassion and forgiveness. We all must join in the fight. So when you see me around town with my shirt message, please know that I stand with you in your sorrow and burden, and I only do this so that just maybe it will save one couple the grief, the pain and the lifelong suffering and guilt that comes with the taking of an infant life.

This letter is certainly no masterpiece. It is the information though that is in it that needs to be absorbed nationwide. It tells a sad story that needs to be corrected in order that we as a nation can begin to heal and to get back to the Christian principles that our nation was founded on.

My hope is that we will all think it through and decide to take action. Cut this out of the paper, copy and send to friends and family and ask that they do the same. They can also send it to their local newspaper editor. And most important, they, too, can write to their legislators. Numbers count! Together we can succeed.
