Glacier HOGs raise money for veterans

When not cruising down the highways, the Glacier Harley Owners Group spends time thinking about and helping those who took up arms for the United States.

The group (which abbreviates as the Glacier HOG) raffled off a donated quilt to raise money for the Veterans Food Pantry this summer, raising more than $300 from small ticket purchases.

Vince Singleterry, the assistant director of the group, said the group was happy to do fundraisers like the latest one.

“This spring someone donated the quilt, it was motorcycle-themed,” he said. “We’ve been selling raffle tickets throughout the valley, even as far down as Missoula.”

Group Director Jerry Weich delivered the check to the food shelter the next week.

“A lot of us are veterans ourselves,” Singleterry said. “We are a nonprofit group so we like to help out fellow veterans when we can.”

The quilt was displayed for months at Glacier Harley-Davidson on U.S. 93 South in Kalispell. The business also helped sell raffle tickets. Singleterry said the Glacier HOG has other fundraising events on occasion, such as open houses and burger sales.

“We usually donate our funds to the Veterans Food Pantry,” he said. “As you know, veterans up here are well loved. We try to donate funds in an off month. On Veterans Day people are lined up around the block to give money. We try to help out in-between.”
