Stillwater students excel at AP exams

Stillwater Christian School achieved a 100 percent pass rate for students who took Advanced Placement exams — a first for the school.

The 18 who sat for exams last May achieved a 3 or better. Advanced Placement exams are scored on 5-point scale. A score of 3 or higher often translates to college credit because it shows a student is capable of completing college-level introductory coursework, according to the College Board, the nonprofit that manages the Advanced Placement Program.

Ten seniors took the Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition exam with two students earning 5, three students earning 4 and five achieving 3.

Eight juniors took the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition exam. Of the eight, two students achieved 5, five earned 4 and one student got a 3.

“This was a great group of students,” Stillwater English teacher Cinda Wilson said. She was one of three teachers who designed a writing curriculum for kindergarten through 12 grade a few years ago.

“I really feel like we’re building on a solid writing curriculum,” Wilson said.
