Teen who died was Merit semifinalist

As schools were notified of National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, Stillwater Christian School received a letter in recognition of Tabitha Migwi.

Migwi died in a car accident Nov. 10, 2014. She was 16.

The letter signed by National Merit Scholarship Corporation President Timothy McGuire stated:

“It was with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Tabitha M. Migwi, who qualified as a semifinalist in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. We hope this honor is a source of great pride to her family, as it was our honor to recognize such a talented young woman.”

Students entered the scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. Semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.

In 2014, Migwi was remembered by teachers as a confident, studious and articulate student who shined in writing, history, theater and music. She had a 3.97 grade point average in high school.
