FVCC students receive Community Pride awards

Whitefish Credit Union announced the 2015 Community Pride Scholarship recipients this week with five Flathead Valley Community College students who are earning their associate degrees.

Four of the students are from Kalispell: Michael Craig, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in welding/fabrication; Lorelei Marble, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in the medical assistant program; Presley Pritchard, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree and an Associate of Science transfer degree toward her career goal of becoming a nurse; and Molly Whitewater Stroupe, pursuing three Associate of Applied Science degrees in accounting, small business management and business administration.

The fifth student is Jennifer Skillings of Somers, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in practical nursing.

The 2015 scholarship recipients were given $1,875 to help with tuition, fees and book expenses. Tutoring and child-care expenses are also considered in the scholarship.

Over the last 20 years, Whitefish Credit Union has awarded $97,870 to 287 students who are permanent residents of Flathead, Lake and Lincoln counties enrolled at FVCC.

The scholarship criteria takes into consideration financial need, potential for academic and career success and letters of recommendation from non-family members such as teachers, counselors or employers.
