LETTER: Can you really put your family's safety at risk?

| April 1, 2016 10:38 AM

Americans are mostly very generous by nature. Our heritage and freedom was obtained by being staunch in our ideals and giving of our resources so that others may enjoy freedom and security as we do.

That’s why, I believe, some people struggle with the idea of giving refuge to Syrian refugees in our country.

Our country was built by refugees from every corner of the world and fought for by citizens of every ethnicity on the globe. When I am weighing important decisions, experience has taught me to go back to basics to decide which way to go. And as a grandfather, husband, dad, brother and friend, I cannot risk the lives of everyone who depends on me and whom I care for, by allowing something like refugee relocation if there is even the slightest chance of allowing a terrorist into my house.

In this case, I think common sense should overrule generosity.
