GREAT FALLS — Glacier and Flathead opened the tennis season with dual action in the Electric City versus C.M. Russell and Great Falls High.

Glacier blanked CMR 8-0 and tied Great Falls High 4-4.

The Glacier girls beat CMR 6-2, but trailed Great Falls High 4-3 with one match remaining — No. 3 doubles. That match was suspended by darkness with Glacier up 5-4.

It was the second year in a row the same four players at No. 3 doubles had their matched suspended that way.

The Flathead boys lost to Great Falls High and CMR by 8-0 scores.

The Flathead girls tied CMR 4-4 and lost to Great Falls High 5-2.

“A really good day,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said.

“Good results from a lot of kids. There were a lot of tie-breakers, which is good early in the season. A lot of competitive matches.”

Libby blanks Troy

TROY — Cody Wood and Colin Maloney won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 1 and 3 singles for Libby as the Loggers cruised to an easy Class B boys dual victory over Troy.

Jason Brant and Jhamaal Sykes won by 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 scores, respectively, at the Nos. 2 and 4 singles spots.

Libby’s two doubles teams won by forfeit.

“The Loggers have been doing intersquad challenge matches all season long, making the boys match tough,” Libby coach Kyle Hannah said.

“They were looking forward to their matches with Troy and played with a lot of confidence and concentration. They made very few unforced errors, which swept them to victory over a young and short-handed Trojan team.”

Libby also swept play in girls action, although three of the singles matches were much closer than the boys singles. Libby’s Isabelle Martineau prevailed over Kaylee Stecker in a competitive, but wild outing at No. 2, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

Libby’s doubles teams also won by forfeits.

“The girls from Troy were up for the challenge and played the Logger girls tough,” Hannah said.

“They were down on numbers and only had three girls eligible for play, so we ended up with three wins by forfeit.”

The other forfeit was at No. 4 singles.
