LETTER: Malheur occupiers ought to pay damages

| April 5, 2016 10:16 AM

After reading the April 4 article on the occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, it became obvious that those people who were part of the stand off should not only serve jail time but pay for all the costs associated with it.

In the article the accumulated costs so far were $3.7 million, and there were on-going costs as well. This also did not include pay for the federal and state law enforcement.

Since all U.S. federal taxpayers are footing that bill, I would suggest that all the known occupiers, upon conviction, remain in jail until such time as they/their estates pay their share of the bill for all accumulated costs.
