LAW ROUNDUP: Good Samaritan turns in found cash

A generous person found approximately $1,000 in a car rental at the airport and turned it in to Flathead County Sheriff’s Office instead of pocketing the cash.

A woman discovered that her license plate had been stolen from a location off Montana 35 near Kalispell.

A man called from Conrad Drive to report that he had rented a washer, dryer, and bed but when he moved out, his ex-girlfriend would not let him return the items.

A woman called from Somers to report that her brother had grabbed her and thrown her around. A deputy left a message for the man after collecting a statement from the woman.

A deputy determined that a woman had given her ex-husband’s dog away to a stranger. The ex-husband was upset and he could not ask the wife for more information because there was a no-contact order in place between the pair.

A man called from South Juniper Bay Road to say that he had found his kayak after his cabin was broken into four days earlier. The man did not want to repossess the kayak until he could talk to a deputy first.

A woman on Park Street near Kalispell reported that a man was seen walking behind her home. When her boyfriend approached the man and asked what he was doing, the man fled in the opposite direction. A deputy performed extra patrol.


Whitefish Police had a man’s truck towed after a casino worker reported that he had entered the establishment drunk with a little girl in tow. Staff tried to stop the man from leaving, but were unsuccessful. The man was uncooperative with law enforcement.

A person called from Polson to report that someone had delivered a pair of sunglasses to the wrong address and that the recipient had opened the package and sent it to a daughter in Colorado.


Columbia Falls Police took a man to jail after a woman’s mother called to ask that authorities check on her daughter because of some strange messages she had been getting. The woman thought that her daughter might be huffing paint. The daughter’s connection to the man was not specified in the call log.


Kalispell Police took a report from a woman who claimed that her checks had been stolen from her purse at a fast-food restaurant on East Idaho Street.

A woman on Seventh Avenue East North reported that a 13-year-old had threatened to hit her because she made him clean his room. The parties were counseled.

A woman on First Avenue East was counseled after she reported that someone might have left cremated human remains in her boyfriend’s vehicle.

A person on Third Avenue East reported that a man and woman had been successfully kicked out of an apartment, but that the unwanted parties then slashed the other tenants’ tires. Photographic evidence was collected.
