TRACK & FIELD: Great Falls CMR sweeps duals with Flathead

GREAT FALLS — That Flathead track teams were swept in a dual against Great Falls C.M. Russell on Friday, getting edged in the point count despite some impressive performances.

The Flathead girls won just six of the 17 events but narly took the meet because of their depth, losing out on the dual win to the Rustlers by three points, 73-70.

Bravettes jumper Madde Boles set a state qualifying marke in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch to win the event by six inches. Liz Lorentz also set a qualifying mark for Flathead, tossing the shot put 35-3, only to finish in second place behind CMR’s Kylie Greenwell, who had a toss of 36-6 1/2. Greenwell also won the discus.

The Rustlers had a handful of girls add to the win with big performances, Cali Bodglin sweeping the sprints and Shelby Phillips the hurdles. Trisha Carlson won the 400 for CMR with a state-qualifying time of 59.39 seconds.

The CMR boys won a bit more comfortably, taking the meet 77-68.

Flathead senior Josh McCracken won the shot put with a state qualifying mark of 50-7.

The Rustlers had five athletes post qualifying marks including Knox Semenza, who cleared 13-6 in the pole vault to notch a spot at state. Semenza also won the 100 hurdles, the only male to win more than one event at the dual.
