TENNIS ROUNDUP: Glacier in fine early-season form
MISSOULA — Glacier turned in a strong day on the courts Saturday at Playfair Park.
The girls went 2-0-1 with 6-2 victories over Helena Capital and Helena High and tying Missoula Hellgate 4-4.
The boys went 2-0, beating Hellgate 7-1 and Helena High 6-2.
The Glacier boys were up on Helena Capital 2-1 when that match was suspended because the Helena bus driver’s contract had expired. The team had to leave Missoula by 6:30 p.m. to return home.
In that match, Glacier led in the first set of two matches and was a game away from winning the first set in two others.
“So it was a really good day,” Flathead coach Josh Munro said.
“It’s still early (in the season), but there were a lot of good results.”
Flathead was also in action. The girls tied Missoula Hellgate 4-4 and beat Big Sky 7-1 while the boys lost 6-0 to Hellgate but edged Big Sky 4-3.
Results from Flathead’s other dual was not available.

The Columbia Falls boys had a short day on the courts in the Bitterroot Valley with only three matches played in a 2-1 win over Stevensville and 1-1 tie with Corvallis. Teams did not field a full lineup to complete the other matches, which were played as exhibition.
The girls, on the other hand, were at full strength as the Wildkats dominated Corvallis 5-2, and Stevensville 6-1.
“Harley Molchan and Molly Schmit played really steady in singles,” Columbia Falls girls coach Gene Marcille said.
“They were focused. The doubles teams played well, too.”

Polson hosts Whitefish & Dillon for day of duals
POLSON — The Whitefish boys opened their season by downing Polson 5-2 and Dillon 4-3 in Class A dual action.
“For our first match (of the season against Dillon), I thought our kids looked sharp,” Whitefish boys coach Chris Schwaderer said.
“They really competed hard. A few matches could have gone either way. We stepped up and played really well.”
The Polson girls slipped by Dillon 4-3 and topped Whitefish 5-2.
Whitefish girls coach Patrick Dryden said his squad improved as the day went along.
“We definitely had a taste of the first-match jitters,” he said. “This was Dillon’s seventh match and our first. Hopefully we can catch up as the season progresses.”
