RUGBY: Whitefish's Heavirland scores first try for U.S. National Team

LANGFORD, British Columbia — With her family in attendance, Whitefish’s Nicole Heavirland scored her first try for the U.S. National Team as the Eagles Sevens advanced to the Cup round at the Canada 7s tournament on Saturday, the fourth leg of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series.

Heavirland dotted down the final try for the Americans in a 24-12 win over Fiji, the only win on the day for the Eagles. They also suffered a late loss to Spain in which Heavirland started, giving away a try with no time left. The U.S. also lost its final match of the day to New Zealand.

The Eagles finished second in their pool on Saturday and will play England in the Cup quarterfinals today at 12:06 p.m. MT. All of the matches will be broadcast online at TheRugbyChannel.tv.
