SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Glacier splits, Flathead loses two in Helena

HELENA — Glacier had to settle for a split with the Helena schools on Saturday in Western AA softball action.

The Wolfpack dropped Capital 5-1 with Ali Williams striking out 14 batters and holding the Bruins to four hits.

She issued one walk.

Williams’ two-run homer in the seventh inning cleared the left-field fence by 30-35 feet.

In the second game with Helena High, Anna Fisher hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Bengals to a 2-0 victory.

Williams went the distance in that one also, fanning 13 while giving up six hits.

Christina DuFour and Williams had the only two hits for Glacier (4-3 overall, 3-1 league).

HELENA —Helena High scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal a Western AA win from the Bravettes.

Flathead outhit Helena 9-8 with Riley Chouinard going 3 for 4 and driving in a run. Jayden Russell went 2 for 3, which included a double.

In the other outing, Helena Capital’s Shelby Martin checked Flathead (0-7, 0-4) by striking out nine batters and issuing just six hits.

Capital scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 lead.

Russell doubled and homered in four plate appearances and drove in three runs

WHITEFISH — Whitefish hung with Stevensville for three innings before the Yellowjackets pulled away for a Class A nonconference victory that was ended by the 10-run rule after six innings.

McKenzie Carl, Madison Davis and Lauren McDonald all had RBIs for Whitefish.

Davis, Rebecca Cantina and Abby Reese had two hits each for the Bulldogs.

Stevensville put the game out of reach with a 5-run fourth inning and four runs in the sixth.

The Loggers rolled in the first game as Madisen Monigold went 4 for 4 and drove in three runs.

Kahlyn Hageness went the distance in the circle to get the win. She had seven strikeouts, walked two and allowed 11 hits. At the plate, she went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Plains outhit Libby 11-5 to win the second contest.

Hageness had two of Libby’s five hits.

“We just didn’t hit the ball really well in the second game,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said.

“They are a good team, well coached.”

Deer Lodge held a commanding 11-1 lead after three innings.

Schweikert pitched the final four innings. She struck out eight batters and issued no walks.

Katie Price walked four times and scored twice for the Wildkats.

Samantha Collins tripled for Columbia Falls.
