Stillwater student receives Carson honor
Eighth-grader Julia Wynne has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship through the Carson Scholars Program.
The Stillwater Christian School student attended the recognition banquet with other Carson Scholars in Baltimore on April 10.
The purpose of the program started by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy, is to “recognize and reward outstanding students” in grades four through 11 throughout the United States “who exemplify academic excellence and humanitarian qualities,” according to www.carsonscholars.org.
Carson Scholars must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 along with community service experience.
In addition to Wynne’s scholarship, a trophy will be displayed at the school.
Ben Carson spoke to a packed audience in Kalispell in March 2014 as a keynote speaker for the school’s annual “For Such a Time as This” event.
