TENNIS: Glacier rolls over all three Missoula schools

In the first eight seasons of Glacier tennis, the Wolfpack had never beaten Missoula Hellgate in a dual.
In 2016, they’ve beaten them twice.
Glacier’s boys and girls teams went undefeated Saturday at Flathead Valley Community College, where the Wolfpack and Flathead faced off with all three Missoula high schools in separate dual matches.
The Pack downed the Knights 5-3 in the most tightly contested match of the day, sweeping all four singles contests and securing the victory at fourth doubles where Morgan Cordell and Matt LaGrandeur knocked off Mike McKay and Cooper Webster, 6-4, 6-3.
Glacier beat Hellgate 6-1 on April 10.
“Our boys team is improving every week and our singles players are just playing really tough,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said. “This is a fairly deep team overall.”
Glacier showed off its depth all day, winning all 12 singles matches the boys played. Spencer Johnson, Holland Blalack, Graham Friedman and Ryker McIntyre, at first through fourth singles, respectively, all went 3-0.
The Wolfpack boys beat Missoula Big Sky 8-0 and Missoula Sentinel 6-2.
Glacier’s girls won two matches and tied another, besting Big Sky 6-2, Hellgate 6-2 and tying 4-4 with Sentinel.
McKenna Tinseth won all three of her singles matches, including a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Sheyla Johnson of Big Sky at the No. 1 spot. Tinseth’s other two wins came at second singles.
Flathead also had an encouraging day, picking up three team wins. The girls were unbeaten, dropping Sentinel 5-3 and Big Sky 6-2 before tying Hellgate, 4-4. The Bravettes dominated in singles play, going 10-2, with Ellie Berreth, Rayna Darrow and Lauren McCarter — at, in order, first through third singles — going 6-0 against Sentinel and Big Sky.
On the boys side, the Braves bounced back from a 7-0 loss to Sentinel to knock off Big Sky 5-2. They fell 8-0 to Hellgate in their final dual of the day.
“I think they’ve all had their moments,” Flathead coach Rick Berreth said of his team’s effort. “The young kids are coming in and doing their job so I’m pretty pleased.”
Glacier and Flathead will face each other in the annual crosstown match on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at FVCC.

CUT BANK — Polson’s girls finished off an undefeated weekend with two more wins at the Cut Bank Invitational on Saturday.
The Pirates won 6-1 against Havre and bested Cut Bank 5-2.
Polson’s doubles teams went 6-0 to lead the way.
The Polson boys split their two matches, falling 4-3 to Havre and topping Cut Bank 5-2.
