LETTER: Uranium and Malheur, the untold story?

| April 17, 2016 9:30 AM

In the opinion page on Feb. 25, Gene Lyons seems to know the Bundy boys are the only villains at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge.

The Bundys had no idea what they were walking into. They picked probably the worst place on the planet to protest federal bureaucracy, mishandling of grazing permits and other strong-arm tactics and crimes.

You see, Mr. Lyons, the refuge sits on a huge amount of precious metals, including uranium, which foreign governments would like to get their hands on, not to mention — which most news outlets have failed to mention — the many private ranches that surround the refuge which are losing their rights and land.

I’m sure, Mr. Lyons, you have heard of Pravda, Vladimir Putin, Rosatom, the Russian nuclear corporation, a Canadian company named Uranium One, and, last but not least, the Clinton Foundation?

These are the real villains!

But don’t take my word for it. Check out the New York Times, hardly a right-wing paper, an article written by Jo Becker and Mike McIntire on April 23, 2015. Even though Mike Wallace is gone, it looks like there are still a few real journalists alive.
