LAW ROUNDUP: Police chase ends with two in custody on school grounds
After an initial call from a west side neighborhood watchman, Kalispell Police chased a handful of youths across the west side and onto school grounds. One young man led officers to the top of the school, while the other ducked among the structures on school property. Both were detained; the young man on top of the roof had to be lowered by bucket crane because he was handcuffed and couldn’t safely climb down the ladder. Police were unable to locate three other boys, but released the two back into custody of their parents.
An intoxicated man was seen stripping his clothes off near an outdoor vending machine in North Kalispell. A manager at a nearby business called police to have him removed from the property. Another pair of men were cited with indecent exposure when, from an alley, they ran naked in different directions of downtown Kalispell. When police caught up with one of the men, they found he had been drinking and claimed he was only “curious to see how far he could make it.”
A driver was worried about a man who had been following her and her children as they drove through the west part of Kalispell. The woman told dispatch that the man likely had weapons in the vehicle, because, “That’s the kind of person he is.” After contacting the man, police discovered the woman was driving the man’s vehicle and he was trying to get it back.
A man found a backpack near a vacant home. He believed the backpack was stolen, but didn’t disclose what items were inside.
A four-wheeler was seen driving around a construction site in North Kalispell.
Someone stole a wood-splitter from a Kalispell resident’s back yard.
A pizza delivery driver reported a transient man walking in the middle of oncoming traffic.
A Kalispell resident reported his neighbor’s dog had been barking for hours and that the barking had become an ongoing problem. Officers spoke with the dog owner, who put the dog inside.
A young man in a red Pontiac Vibe was seen stealing a case of beer from a Kalispell convenience store.
A transient man was banned from a local ice cream shop after harassing customers inside.
Columbia Falls Police received a call about a vehicle-versus-bike accident, where the driver was taking the bike with him after the incident. No one was injured and the bicyclist’s grandmother picked up the bike at the police department later that day.
A woman reported her son’s “friends” had broken into their garage and torn the coolant system out of her son’s car.
A neighbor called dispatch to report a man and woman screaming at each other next door.
A Columbia Falls resident called 911 about a loud party next door. The woman had tried reaching out to the party hosts herself, but had been threatened with a fire bomb for doing so.
A landlord told Whitefish Police on Saturday that a few former tenants had been evicted from their apartment, but pried the back door open and were back in the apartment.
Police received a report about two children and an infant left inside a car in the Saturday heat. When police arrived, they found the car to be running with the air conditioning on. The children were safe, but officers spoke with the mother about leaving children in the car.
