Top Glacier language students honored
Glacier High School’s International Language Department inducted 26 new members into the National Spanish and French honor societies April 18.
The following students were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society: Malea Bauer, Maya Buckingham, Kennedi Fisher, Graham Friedman, Colin Hill, Natalie Krueger, Erin McHugh, Brittyn Olsen, Marin Stencel and Abigail Vanorny.
French Honor Society inductees included Madison Armstrong, Renee Barker, Sophie Binstein, Tyler Brockman, Anna Cecil, Jaimie Davis, Carley Denton, Libby Hill, Nathan Lorenc, Brandon Ly, Rachel Maher, Jessica McManus, Ian Petrini, Jordan Steffen, Kendall Warner and Sidney Whitlock.
Eligible students must be in at least their third year of foreign language study, have an “A” average in their current language class, have a 3.5 or higher cumulative average in all previous language classes, have a 3.0 or higher overall grade-point average during the semester of induction and be considered a student in good standing.
Seventeen students were recognized as International Language Academy Distinction honorees.
This distinction acknowledges graduating seniors who complete classes with an emphasis in Spanish or French.
They are Teigan Avery, Katie Christensen, Kelsie Davis, Caleb Hill, Spencer Johnson, Christina Kubai, Dakota Long, Margie Malaga, Cayli Mower, Michelle Shirshov, Kaileigh Sidmore, Kyersten Sienbenaler, Sarah Stratton Nick Tonjum, Julie Tripp, Kendra Vogel and Allison Williams.
Social Studies teacher Kristyn Morin was honored with the Friend of Languages Award for showing exemplary support of International Language learning, teaching and culture in the Flathead Valley. Recipients of this award are selected by the students.
Morin was chosen because “she never fails to pass along the importance of languages, tolerance, and diversity to her students.” In addition she has inspired students to explore through photos and stories of her own travels.
