TENNIS: Polson dominates Stevensville

STEVENSVILLE — Polson tennis dropped one match in a sweep of Stevensville on Thursday.

The Polson girls dominated the Yellowjackets, winning all seven matches without dropping a set.

Marlee Congdon at No. 1 singles, Tessa Nunlist at No. 3 singles and Shea McGuinness at No. 4 singles all won 6-0, 6-0 in the dominant performance. Mollie Lemon, playing at No. 2 singles, was nearly as commanding in her victory, winning 6-1, 6-1.

The doubles teams were also good, with the top two duos, Olivia Hewston and Kyler Lundeen at No. 1 and Shawna Lenz and Cassie Carlyle at No. 2, losing a combined four games in their two matches. The No. 3 duo of Hunter Tamcke and Natalee Wheeler won 6-3, 6-2.

Stevi’s Colton Belcourt won in straight sets at No. 1 boys singles to mark the only blemish of the day on Polson, which won the dual 6-1.

Wyatt Ducharme won a marathon three-setter at No. 2 singles and Johnny Moore a nearly equally long match at No. 4 singles. Kabe Forman-Webster won with relative ease compared to his teammates, winning 6-3, 6-3.

The Polson boys were nearly flawless in doubles, with the top two teams combining to lose one game. The team of Carson McDaniel and Hudson Smith at No. 3 doubles had to work overtime, however, winning a final set 12-10 to mark another close victory for the Pirates.

The Pirates get a break before returning to the courts, getting the weekend off of competition before a trip to Hamilton and Corvallis on Friday.
