Charles Lowell Marvin, 81
Charles Lowell Marvin died peacefully at home with his wife and boys at his side on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the age of 81.
Charlie was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Forsyth to Gilford and Lura Marvin. They moved to Smith Valley when Charlie was 2 years old.
He graduated in 1953 from Flathead County High School and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Schonenberger, on July 3, 1954, in Somers. This summer they would’ve celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Charlie and Shirley were blessed with nine sons in 15 years — Ron and Robin of Kalispell, Clay and Lori of Lodi, California, Shawn of Kalispell, Kenneth and LeAnn of Kalispell, Loren and Jamie of Reno, Nevada, Zeno and Liz of Hermiston, Oregon, Matthew and Lori of Kalispell, Chuck and Anne of Missoula, and Michael and Amy of Spokane. They also have 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
In 1955, Charlie and Shirley moved to Spokane where Charlie attended barber school. After graduating they moved to Missoula, where Charlie barbered for a year. In 1956, they moved back to Kalispell where Charlie opened a barber shop on Idaho Street. Along with his barber shop, Charlie spent the weekends farming, working in the woods cutting railroad ties and cutting Christmas trees with Shirley and the boys. He was a fair, kind-hearted man, who was adamant about teaching his boys a strong work ethic and developing a respect for life. He loved coaching his boys and working with them and he was passionate family man. His children will remember him as a supportive and accepting father who encouraged them to be positive.
He and Shirley were also active and dedicated members of St. Matthew’s Parish.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at St. Matthew’s Church. Father Ermatinger will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlie’s life.
