EDITORIAL: Lawrence Park just got better

| April 28, 2016 10:27 AM

Lawrence Park is a treasure in so many regards that people probably get tired of us recommending it to our readers and thanking the city and the many volunteers who have made it the gem it is.

But here we go again.

The addition of the Boulder Project to the front end of Lawrence Park provides a whole new dimension to the park, which already boasts such visitor amenities as a kiddy zip line, a folf course, a climbing hill, scenic river walks, as well as the pavilion facility and plenty of open space.

The two artificial boulders that were planted in the park last week will provide endless hours of challenging fun for young and old alike. Thanks to the Kalispell Daybreak Rotary and Michael Goguen for their significant contributions, along with everyone else who helped to make this project happen.

Enjoying Glacier on a bike just got easier

People enjoying the seasonal bicycling route on the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park will have a new service to enjoy next week.

A new bicycle-shuttling service is scheduled to start May 7 to ease congestion and parking challenges at Avalanche Creek.

With money raised by the Glacier Park Conservancy, the park bought two new bike trailers to shuttle riders from Lake McDonald Lodge to Avalanche. That means that once motorists are allowed to drive to Avalanche, bikers can load up at the lodge and get a ride to Avalanche, which becomes a notoriously busy place on a nice Glacier day.

The shuttle is a simple idea, yet it promises to be a great way to ease some of the crowding when all the locals converge on Glacier for the spring ritual of riding Sun Road without vehicle concerns.
