SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Glacier's Williams stifles Helena schools; Flathead swept

Ali Williams allowed only a solo home run in two complete games and the Glacier Wolfpack secured a pair of key Western AA conference wins Saturday afternoon at Kidsports Complex, defeating Helena High 2-0 and Helena Capital 2-1.

The Wolfpack (10-5 overall, 8-2 conference) managed just eight hits combined in the two contests, but the offensive contributions came at key times and were enough to support Williams, who was dominant. The Glacier senior allowed only four hits in 14 innings.

“I’m very pleased on the day,” Glacier coach Andy Fors said. “We’ve found ourselves in some close games and we haven’t been able to come up with a hit or a run to win.

“We were in two close games today and the girls showed a lot of toughness.”

Glacier’s first game of the day was scoreless into the bottom of the sixth inning when Alivia Atlee connected on a two-run home run, her second of the year, to give the Wolfpack all the offense it would need against the Bengals.

In the nightcap, the Pack scored twice in the fourth inning, getting RBIs from Anna Schrade and Emma Shew. Jaley Priddy homered off Williams in the seventh for the only Bruins run.

The Bravettes lost again, to Helena High, later in the day.

Flathead (4-11, 2-8) evened up a wild game with the Bruins in its last at bat when Jayden Russell singled and Abbie O’Brien walked. Capital went to the bullpen, but Knutson greeted Shelby Martin with a three-run blast to tie the score.

In the ninth, Capital’s Emily Hill turned the tables on Knutson, taking the Flathead pitcher deep for a three-run homer of her own to cap a four-run inning.

The Bravettes’ offense piled up 17 hits in the two games including a two-run home run from Kaitlin Torgerson in the loss to the Bengals. Torgerson and Russell each had four hits and went a combined 8 for 15 to lead Flathead.
