LAW ROUNDUP: Did bottling opponents flip a lid?

An angry mother told Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies that her daughter drove by “a bunch of over-excited environmentalists” on Montana 35 in Kalispell and that an older man allegedly swore at the daughter for driving too fast. The mother said the environmentalists were there because of a proposed bottling plant and that she “wants the bottling plant to go through just to spite these people.” She said “no one should be swearing at her daughter regardless of what her daughter is doing.” Officers went to the scene and said there was parking congestion only and “everyone in the area [was] behaving themselves.”

A man on Shady Lane allegedly kicked down a door, tried to beat up someone, slapped his wife and punched a wall.

A woman was bitten on the arm by a dog and was in and out of consciousness on U.S. 2 West. The woman’s husband said the dog got in a fight with another dog and she was allegedly bitten when she attempted to break up the dog fight. The man said he didn’t want the dog, which was taken in by a relative.

A tool trailer full of carpentry tools was reported stolen on Western Village Lane in Columbia Falls.

A woman on Bear Trail in Whitefish wanted animal control to look at a neighbor’s house because she claimed there was a “putrid smell” coming from what she believed to be animal waste “pooling” in an alley — that or a defective septic tank.

Six tons of gravel were reported stolen from U.S. 2 West in Marion.

A man on Sawmill Lane in Kalispell told officers a neighbor was at his house and reportedly said he “would kill his dog and kick his butt.” The man said the neighbor was allegedly upset about garbage being burned. There were apparently fireworks inside, which exploded and started a minor fire.

Someone was suspicious of three people with headlamps on who were allegedly looking through a boat in a neighbor’s yard on East Evergreen Drive.

Someone saw a red van crash into trees then allegedly leave the scene on Columbia Mountain Road in Columbia Falls.

A bird sitter caused mayhem on Ninth Street West in Columbia Falls when she allegedly called the bird’s owner and said one of the birds was dead and that she had sent the other one out of state, but wouldn’t tell the owner where or how to get it.


A woman on Two Mile Drive returned to her new apartment to find that someone had come inside and dumped “a whole tote of odds and ends” like cellphones, jewelry — even a quarter collection. Nothing appeared to be missing from her apartment, she told Kalispell Police Department.

Someone on Cooper Lane reported to police that a man allegedly visiting his mother “dumped” a boat and “took off.” The person calling in the report said the man was a “drug dealer” and that the boat was stolen. A trailer was found to have been stolen.

An upset employee on Fifth Avenue West told police that a man came into the store, went into the bathroom and then reportedly exposed himself before leaving in a white Explorer with black trim. The man was described as clean-cut and possibly 60 years old.

Construction signs were spotted blowing into the roadway on Hutton Ranch Road and U.S. 93 North.

Someone on College Avenue claimed a “horrible smell” of “something decomposing” was emanating from a trailer. Officers checked the area and spoke with neighbors, who were unable to catch a whiff of the offending odor.

A woman on Three Mile Drive was counseled to use the non-emergency phone number after she called 911 and then hung up. When dispatch called her back, she said law enforcement had been picking up someone and she believed they took her water bottle with them. It was deemed the bottle was taken by accident and would be returned.

A woman on West Idaho Street said her vehicle was stolen while she was at a gas pump.


A man was deemed disorderly by a park owner on U.S. 2 West, who told Columbia Falls Police Department that when the man arrived on the scene he allegedly “proceeded to get drunk and disorderly” and was “disturbing the whole park.”

Someone at a Fourth Avenue West house called police to report that a man reportedly threw a table around, punched two holes in walls and yelled at children. The caller said he or she wanted to press charges for damages.


A Wisconsin Avenue resident was dismayed to come home to find the door to his house was kicked in, but believed nothing was missing inside. The man told Whitefish Police Department that he may know who did the deed.

A woman on East 13th Street who reportedly didn’t get a package delivered believed she had a criminal case on her hands. The woman said she had documents showing an employee signed for delivery of the package, but was allegedly told by the shipping store that “they do not have the item.” The woman said she wanted to file a police report as she was retaining a lawyer to help in the matter and was given a case number by officers.

Someone on East First Street said he or she heard a man and a woman fighting and it sounded physical.

A bystander told police a crying woman and a “very angry” man were arguing in an alley behind a bar on Central Avenue and the woman allegedly said she was going to have a seizure.
