The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Wildlife Division has temporarily closed the Mollman Pass Trail in the Mission Mountains Tribal Wilderness after receiving a report of a dead horse off the trail.

Game wardens with the tribes’ Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation and Conservation closed the trail to protect people and bears from potential conflicts.

“This type of closure is common for all trails in the Mission Mountains Tribal Wilderness when there is a report of a dead animal near the trail,” Dale Becker, Tribal Wildlife Program manager, stated in a press release.

The trail is located east of Kicking Horse Job Corps Center and southeast of Ronan and will remain closed until an investigation has been completed.

For additional information on the closure or on bear activity in the area, contact Germaine White at 406-883-2888.
