Scouts win awards at summer camp

Troop 1936 based out of Whitefish and Eureka brought home several awards from a weeklong Melita Island Summer Camp on Flathead Lake.

The troop’s 14 Scouts participated in various learning opportunities from wilderness survival to environmental science. The Scouts also participated in various aquatics programs and three completed the ACE program geared for advanced Scouts in a high adventure setting.

Senior Patrol Leader Alan Hepner accepted the Outstanding Campsite Award on behalf of Troop 1936 awarded in recognition for outstanding participation and service. Cordell Stramer, Colby Hammack, and Riley Duram won first place in the raft race, the only troop athletic competition held during the week. Hammack, Stramer and Jim Mephem also received the Boy Scouts of America Mile Swim Award.
