WEEKEND UPDATE: Doughnuts

Kalispell Senior Center is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts as a fundraiser today starting at 6 a.m. on the corner of U.S. 2 and 93, downtown Kalispell, until they’re gone.


Stands rebuilding

Glacier Restaurant Group hosts Restaurant Industry Night today.

Craggy Range, Latitude 48 and Ciao Mambo in Whitefish, along with MacKenzie River Pizza Co. Kalispell and Whitefish, will donate a portion of today’s proceeds to the Columbia Falls Baseball Association to help rebuild the grandstand at Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Field.

The grandstands burned on June 27. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

First Friday

Downtown Kalispell celebrates First Friday today. Businesses and merchants will be open late and offer a variety of specials.


Show & Shine

Evergreen’s Show & Shine kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Conlin’s Furniture, 1441 Montana 35.

There is no entry fee or pre-registration. Register your vehicle the day of the show.

More than 30 categories of cars, motorcycles, off-road vehicles and golf carts will be on display. Trophies will be awarded and Best of Show winner will receive a $400 gift card to NAPA-Kalispell Auto Parts. Door prizes and goodie bags will be given away during the event that continues until 3 p.m.

Spectator parking is available east of Conlin’s in the grassy area or at Able Body Shop. There is a gate connecting the parking area to Conlin’s.

Junior rangers

Montana State Parks hosts Junior Ranger Day from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Harry Horn Day Use Area at Wayfarers State Park.

Geared for ages 5 and above, Junior Ranger Day is free and includes fun activities like hiking, bird watching, games, crafts and more.

A guided Junior Ranger hike through the park begins at 1 p.m.

The event is the launch of the State Parks’ Junior Ranger Passport Program that is available, free of charge, to children and families at any time from the Flathead Lake Ranger Station to encourage exploring Flathead Lake State Parks.

Bigfork fun

The annual Big Sky Antique and Classic Boat Show and Bigfork Festival of the Arts share the weekend in Bigfork. The arts festival is downtown and the boat show will be at Marina Cay Resort. Admission is free to both events.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for the 38th annual Bigfork Festival of the Arts. More than 150 booths of art, crafts and food will be set up along with live music and other entertainment. All downtown merchants will be open for business as well.

All parking access to downtown will be closed during festival hours, but parking and shuttle buses are available behind the Bethany Lutheran Church on Montana 35 and the Potoczny Baseball Field (east of the post office).

The Boat Show features more than 25 classic mahogany boats in the Marina Cay Resort Harbor, plus more on trailers plus informational tents.

The Montana Wooden Boat Foundation will offer model sailboat kits for the first 20 children at its show tent on Saturday and raffle a remote control sailboat model kit.

Boat show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.


Smokin’ on the Water

The KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson hosts the eighth annual Smokin’ on the Water barbecue contest Saturday.

The event is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with vendors, children’s activities and live music.

Cooks will compete in five categories. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded in all categories.


Mountain run

The Glacier Nordic Club has its 34th annual Big Mountain Run at 10 a.m. Saturday. The race starts at the Danny On Trailhead at Whitefish Mountain Resort and ends at the summit — a 3.8 mile course. Runners and runners with dogs will compete. Hikers are welcome.

All registered runners (except dogs) receive a free chair-lift ride back to the base.

Registration is $15 per individual, $35 per family, and $8 juniors (16 and under) available at runsignup.com.

Race-day registration will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 at the Danny On Trailhead. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Glacier Nordic Ski Team.


Community Day

Woodland Water Park hosts Community Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in Kalispell. Admission is $3 per person with a canned human or pet food donation for the food pantry.
