LAW ROUNDUP: Driving while bureaucratic

A woman allegedly used her job title as an excuse to drive recklessly when Columbia Falls Police Department responded to a report that her gray Subaru was cutting in an out of traffic on Ninth Street West. The woman reportedly said “she is a federal employee so she can do whatever she wants.”

A vehicle versus building accident occurred on Ninth Street East and resulted in a “big window in the front” breaking. The person calling in the report said the man driving the vehicle was “acting funny” and his physical description didn’t match his driver’s license. When the caller “quizzed him” about the discrepancy, the man allegedly started talking about wrestling with a buddy.

Someone on Third Avenue West was concerned about a property where the outside was “allegedly a mess” and that the inside may be “just as bad” and was possibly affecting the living environment of the property owner’s daughter.

A woman wanted “to know her options” after allegedly finding a methamphetamine pipe in her husband’s vehicle.


A woman in Lakeside was allegedly yelling obscenities at a 7-year-old boy. causing him to cry, according to Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

Thirteen cows were spotted at large on Hagerman Lane in Kalispell.

A backpack containing a gun was reported lost in Herron Park. It was later found and returned to its owner.

A teenager on a motorcycle was reportedly trespassing on someone’s property on Pleasant Valley Road in Marion and flipped a woman’s husband off. The boy reportedly did not have a helmet or a license. Frustrated, the woman was “demanding a deputy come out there and deal with this kid.”

A manager on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell said two shoplifters allegedly pushed a security officer and fled in a vehicle after having stolen video games and clothing contained in a duffel bag and backpack. The alleged shoplifters were described as two skinny males with buzzed haircuts. The manager said the males acted like they were “tweaking.”


Kalispell Police Department responded to a report from medical personnel that a patient had been stabbed by someone. The victim was allegedly dropped off and another man left in a vehicle.

A male told officers he was playing Pokemon Go when a man on top of a building reportedly threw balloons filled with fluid at him.

Someone on Fifth Avenue West said a friend was allegedly attacked at the mall by a relative and was bleeding from a head wound.

Between six and seven boys were reportedly knocking on doors and standing on cars on Empire Loop. Officers made contact with four boys on Vanderbilt Drive and counseled them.

Maybe someone was hoping for a makeover when officers received a report that a makeup bag, bottle of Axe and a hunting knife were taken from vehicles on Buffalo Stage.

A man with mental health concerns was allegedly making “homicidal threats” to blow up a building.

Someone on First Avenue West wanted to know if it was legal to have goats. He or she was advised that a city ordinance allows a resident to have two pygmy goats as pets.

A man was going through his deceased father’s belongings and asked police for advice on what to do with an alleged human skull he was told his father had found on an Alaskan island in 1950. Dispatchers said they would contact Alaska state troopers to see if there was any interest. In the meantime, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office stated they would take possession of the skull.

A motorcycle was reported stolen out of a backyard on Harlequin Court.

A woman who believed a dachshund “was going to die” inside a vehicle on North Main Street opened the car, took the dog out and gave it water. The woman then met law enforcement to find the dog’s owner. The vehicle was gone by then, so the dog was taken to the shelter.

The health department received a complaint from someone concerned about the fish displayed in a restaurant’s aquarium.


Whitefish Police Department received a report of what appeared to be a 2-year-old black bear “wandering the area” on Mountain Park Drive.


Kalispell Fire Department responded to a fuel spill on Seventh Avenue East North in Kalispell.
