No parking on Main Street during parade

| August 17, 2016 8:00 AM

There will be no parking on Main Street in Kalispell on Friday morning during the Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo Parade.

Signs will be posted beginning Thursday evening along both sides of Main Street from the intersection of Eighth Street to Center Street, alerting drivers that parking will be prohibited after 9 a.m. Friday. The parade starts at 10 a.m.

The Kalispell Police Department will enforce the temporary parking restriction.

Parking will be available after the parade concludes at approximately 11:30 a.m.

This is the first time in many years that parking has not been available on Main Street during a parade. The change is to increase safety for both spectators and participants, according to a news release from the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber is working with the city of Kalispell, the Montana Department of Transportation and the Kalispell Police Department on the parking closure.

Elderly and mobility-impaired people will have spaces reserved in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot; a portion of the sidewalk in front of the church will be available for them to view the parade. People using this special parking area should enter the lot from the alley behind the church, accessible from Fifth Street West.

Downtown businesses will be open during the parade.

Questions about parking or other parade-related inquiries should be directed to the Chamber at (406) 758-2806.
