LETTER: Will liberals denounce lying?

| August 26, 2016 6:00 AM

I get it. The world is changing. The United States is changing. Capitalism, though successful, is bad. Socialism, though unsuccessful, is good. We are all supposed to accept this change — abortion on demand, gay marriage, transgender bathroom use — as inevitable and shut up.

In New York City, if you identify a person by a gender different from the one with which they identify themselves, you can be fined up to $250,000. Sounds simple ... Sir, Ma’am, Ms. or Mr. Not so fast. New York City has defined 31 distinct genders. THIRTY-ONE! This includes: genderqueer, gender bender, two spirit, pangender to name a few. I am not kidding ... look it up!

But perhaps even liberals can agree that LYING — making statements that are false — is not acceptable even for governments and politicians. Perhaps even liberals can agree that an attorney general LYING about the Fast and Furious gun running program was wrong. Perhaps even liberals can agree that a secretary of state and president LYING about the attack on the consulate in Benghazi was wrong. Perhaps even liberals can agree that a president LYING about “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” was wrong.

Now we learn that a pallet of foreign currency — FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS — was loaded on an unmarked airplane and delivered to Iran hours before the hostages were released. [Seems strange that Obama and the Democrats can’t figure out a way to fully fund the $2 billion Zika program without a congressional bill but have no problem finding a half billion in cash to pay off terrorists!] The justification — partial payment of frozen Iranian assets from a 1970s deal with the shah before the mullahs took over.

In violation of U.S. law, our government exchanged U.S. dollars for French francs and Euros (commonly referred to as money laundering), cash that was more than likely distributed by the mullahs to the terror groups it sponsors including Hamas and Hezbollah. What does the administration say? Absolutely not ransom! Just a coincidence that the plane-load of cash landed in Iran hours before the hostages were released.

I know. Politicians and governments have lied since the beginning of time. But this administration’s level of LYING is beyond the pale. So back to my original point. Is repeated lying to the people by the president and his spokespersons the new normal? Or is it possible ... just for once ... that both conservatives and liberals can agree that LYING is unacceptable for anyone ... especially the president of the United States of America and his representatives. —P.
