Man sentenced for 6th DUI

A man has been given a suspended sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol for a sixth time after allegedly taking out a guardrail in a Sept. 30 crash.

Alex John Jungwirth, 31, was given a three-year suspended sentence by Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy for a felony driving under the influence. The charge will run consecutive to a sentence handed down in Lake County last week, in which Jungwirth’s previous suspended sentence for a fifth DUI was revoked, and he was ordered to go to prison for three years and ten months, and complete a boot camp program.

According to court documents, Jungwirth was found in a truck that had crashed through a guardrail on Montana 83 near the intersection of Landmark Lane at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Jungwirth smelled of alcohol and refused to give a name, before telling officers that his name was Ben. An open container of beer was allegedly found in the vehicle.

Jungwirth allegedly had slurred speech, blood-shot eyes and refused to comply with officers as they tried to administer field sobriety tests. Jungwirth allegedly refused to provide a breath sample and answered most of the officers’ questions by swearing.

According to court documents, Jungwirth was convicted of driving under the influence in 2015, 2011, 2008, and twice in 2007.

In the 2015 case, Jungwirth was stopped for going 50 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone in Polson. He also gave the investigating officer a fake name, fake date of birth and fake Social Security number in that case.
