•Sympathy for Whitefish, but also for parents of Spencer

Dear Whitefish and Flathead County citizens: Wishing you all a safe and loving holiday season, whatever your faith. I read about the alarming threats to a few of your citizens who spoke out against the white nationalist Richard Spencer. I’m very concerned by the rise of such hate groups and how they’ve been emboldened by our new president. He promotes these factions by having hired the likes of Steven Bannon. May God have mercy on his soul!

There is NO excuse for these threats. May those responsible be caught and brought swiftly to justice for their crimes. Should it be determined there has been no crime, rest assured that what one puts out into the universe comes back to them threefold! I believe that with all my heart.

Speaking of my heart, mine goes out to Mr. Spencer’s parents and their tenants. I know what it is like to be targeted because of the actions/speech of an adult child. It’s a painful experience! Spencer’s parents say they aren’t white nationalists. Mr. Spencer says he wasn’t raised that way. While none of us can know that for a fact, in our country, people are innocent until proven guilty.

Our Constitution bestows rights to all regardless of what they believe or who they are, even if we hate what they believe. All religions have some version of the “Golden Rule.” Do unto others as you would have done unto you. This is the season of miracles and for love and forgiveness in spite of all the hate and violence around us. I hope you’re able to allow them to love their son and live in peace among you. I pray no harm comes to those who have been threatened. May the new year be kind to all. —Vickie Hodge, Arkdale, Wisconsin

•Shame on you, Mr. Prosecutor

In the article on “Kalispell man sentenced in underage sex sting” in the Dec. 22 edition of the Inter Lake, the prosecutor, Travis Ahner, was quoted as saying: “If it means the sinking of Cislo’s restaurant, I’m fine with that.” I think that Mr. Ahner owes Mr. Cislo, his restaurant staff and all of the loyal customers of Cislo’s Family Restaurant an apology. His comment and attitude is not in keeping with his professional status in our community. Shame on you, Mr. Ahner! —Hugh Shawhan, Kalispell

• Is going easy on Muslim immigrants

On December 19, a Muslim Turkish policeman murdered Russia’s ambassador to Turkey in Ankara, Turkey. Bearing in mind this attack, the Berlin truck massacre on same day, the Ohio State University rampage and the many other recent murders and mayhem caused by Muslims, how safe and comfortable do you feel about Muslim police protecting you in the USA?

How about running U.S. nuclear-power plants or water-treatment plants?

Perhaps you believe they are not all like that — but which ones are and which ones are not? What should we do to safeguard ourselves?

Should we spend a tremendous amount of time and money vetting Muslims coming into this country? Doing this didn’t save 14 murdered Americans at the San Bernardino attack. The female Muslim terrorist murderer at San Bernardino, California, was vetted more vigorously than most with the fiancee visa program.

Have our politicians committed treason to America by allowing Muslims into this country? Are they continuing this treason by not deporting all Muslims?

What should we do for justice? I await your answers! —Teri Adams, Woods Bay
