Woman worries about calamitous cats

For fear that her cats would turn the stove on and burn her house down, a woman asked the Whitefish Police Department to monitor her house while she was on vacation.

A man called police to report that his prescription drugs had been stolen from his vehicle after it was towed in part of a drug arrest, at which time he was not in possession of his car. Officers told the caller that the pills were not found on the man who was arrested and the towing company wouldn’t have taken the prescription. The officer suggested the prescription owner simply call his doctor and get the supply refilled.

Someone found two snowboards along the side of Edgewood Place and brought them to the city police station.

A driver called police to report a deer had been hit by a car and needed to be dispatched near Whitefish Lake. Police were unable to find the animal, dead or alive.


The sight of a man dressed in all camouflage and a yellow face mask had a Columbia Falls man concerned for the safety of his family. The man called Columbia Falls Police to speak with the suspiciously camo-clad stranger. The caller added that “he has no problems protecting his family if the man returns.” Police did not find the man, but then again, he had been wearing all camouflage.


A first-grade basketball coach called Kalispell Police after allegedly being shoved by one of the parents after a game Saturday morning.

A Kalispell business employee found someone shoplifting while browsing old security footage. An employee at a different business called to report a shoplifter had just fled the store in a 2002 Lexus. Officers found the car had actually been linked to a spree of recent thefts, including Jan. 29 (the day before the call) and Jan. 16.

Police responded to a call at a local casino where a woman said someone had played her $5 in a machine while she had gone to the bathroom. After checking the security footage and seeing no one at the machine, police determined that the woman was impaired. Casino employees allowed her to stay, but said they would call police again if she needed to be removed.

A man told police that he had found several empty pill bottles on the roof of his car. The labels were still on the bottle, leading police to find the owners to have several warrants between Montana and North Dakota.

A restaurant employee reportedly saw five men fighting over a neon green backpack in south Kalispell.

A hotel employee called police to come check out a bag of what looked like drugs left behind in a hotel room.
